Initials thought to be those of Josiah Spurr, prominent USGS Geologist, who was once considered the "Father of Economic Geology". Spurr focused on ore deposits and resource explanation, beginning his work by leading historic explorations of Alaska. He went on to conduct the first geologic survey of Nevada during the Tonopah and Goldfield booms. This is a heavy duty candlestick incribed at both the top and the side of the spike.
