A sheaf of miner's drill steel, c1890's. These are the hand steel used to drill holes for blasting in western mines prior rock drills came into play. An underground discovery from a Nevada location, most likely from the Betty/Bullfrog area. The mine where they were found last saw action after 1898, based on records and others artifacts found. The blacksmith hammer was found with them, but not likely used as a drill hammer. The six hand steel measure 11.5", 12.5", 14", 17.25 (2), and 18.25". A great addition to any western mining artifact collection.
