Mullan, John; Miners and Travelers’ Guide to Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Colorado…; 1865, Wmk. Franklin, New York. Bookplate for Harry C. Stewart in western motif. (Westerners?) 153pp with folding map. 5 x 7.5”, brown boards, gilt lettered spine, wear to spine and board extremities. This was a very popular guide to the West for those traveling from Missouri. It has an itinerary, discussion of Indians, places along the way, etc. There are discussions about where to graze, gather foodstuffs, and how to camp. There are numerous excerpts from newspapers written by travelers to give first-hand accounts, although most are very short. There is a very lengthy discussion of Idaho mines, including Owyhee mines, and this guide seems to be the go-to reference for those traveling to the Idaho mining region. This is an important and early reference of the Idaho Mining region.City: County: State: Date:
