3. Letter from The Great Sierra Consolidated Silver Company, corner ad cover, Bennettville, Mono County, California, Apr 23, 1884; addressed to Thomas Bennett Esq.- namesake of the town! Very rare!

The Great Sierra Consolidated Silver Mining Company had bought all the claims in the area from Thomas Brusky, Jr. in 1881, who had rediscovered the sheepherder lode, and established the company town of Dana. Due to high elevation, the town relocated soon after to the bottom of the hill, becoming Bennettville. Last attempts to garner funds for the company that had heavily invested ($300,000) into a mine extension of 1784 feet into the side of the hill, but had ceased operations by 1884, the year this letter was sent.
