This is a .45-70 cal. trap-door Springfield rifle S/N 289546 made in July of 1885 and marked model 1878 at the breach. It has a 32 in. barrel, the lock-plate is marked U.S. Springfield with an eagle without a date stamp. The barrel bands have the "U" markings, ramrod, U.S. on the top of the buttplate, no visible cartouche on the left side of the stock, VP and eagle proof marks on the barrel at the breach. A tag marked "43" is at the top of the comb, another tag reads "NATIONALS Co. G". The stock shows usage wear and dings, the bore is sharp without any pitting. The buttplate shows signs of wear while reloading. This gun is an antique and no attempt has been made to fire this gun to confirm its mechanical integrity. Nor should this gun be fired without the examination by a qualified gunsmith. Any attempt to fire an antique is at the risk of the owner and not consistent with the value of the firearm. No sales to New York City, New Jersey, California, and Hawaii. No FFL required.
