This Trapdoor Springfield is a model 1884 S/N 48775X which places it late in production about 1890. Springfield made roughly 200,000 copies of this gun between 1885-1890. This rifle has the Springfield Armory cartouche on the left side of the stock near the lock-plate screw. The cartouch reads "SA 1890". The barrel is the standard 32 5/8 in. barrel with a Buffington rear sight . The stock is fit with two bands and the lock is marked Springfield with the eagle and shield. The trigger guard is a two piece unit with a rear swivel and the trigger is serrated. The barrel bore is in excellent condition. The overall condition of this gun is very good with the usual nicks and dings from handling wear. There is roughly 40% original bluing left to the action and the barrel is patinated brown. This is an excellent example of a post-civil war era firearm for the collector.

This gun is an antique and no attempt has been made to fire this gun to confirm this mechanical integrity. Nor should this gun be fired without the examination by a qualified gunsmith. Any attempt to fire and antique gun is at the risk of the owner and not consistent with the value of the firearm.
