Monarch was Reverend Blanchard's ranching scam. In 1906 he laid out the townsite and laid out ranching estates. Mining claims were going fast. A small town sprang up and a stage started running from Manhattan. By August 150 people were living here. Bars, stores, a newspaper, boarding houses and hotels were built or being built. 2,440 town lots and ranching estates were sold. One problem - Blanchard owned every bogus mining claim and in October he left town with $73,000 of the $75,000 he had collected. More notes included. Good for 12 1/2c. Four scallops. Dark, but very good condition. State: Nevada City: Monrach, Nye Date: HWAC# 99609
