Large native gold in quartz specimen from the Monarch Mine in the Pine Nut Range. This is one of the first of the surface discoveries from the modern period that led to digging a deep pit that produced hundreds (or more) ounces of crystallized gold. It measures 6" x 4" x 3 1/2" and has a gross weight of 1151g. It contains perhaps 1.5 or more troy ounces of gold. We think perhaps more because the rock is so heavy for its size. It is impossible to do a specific gravity test on this rock without breaking it up. This is an historic and special original gold specimen. [ Pine Nut Range Nevada
