Mustard Yellow with cover, ribbed pattern. Approximately 10" x 4". Hand glazed. Maple leaf mark on bottom. circa 1894-1930. Excellent condition, no cracks or chips.
The Monmouth Pottery Company in Illinois opened in 1894, and produced stoneware with a maple leaf mark imprint. In 1906, Monmouth, along with seven other mid-western companies (Weir, two Macomb companies, D. Culbertson, Clinton and Fort Dodge) merged to create Western Stoneware. Monmouth became the ‘Artware Division’ of Western Stoneware Co. This division was discontinued during the Great Depression of the 1930s. Maple leaf imprint used for Monmouth 1894-1906 and then Western Stoneware between 1906 and 1930, although many of the new businesses wares were not marked. After 1956, only plant #2 in Monmouth, IL continued production. Western Stoneware Company ceased operations of it's last facility in 1985 & again in 2006 due to it's inability to compete with Asian ceramics. State: City: Date:
