He later became a US Senator. Operated steamers on the Missouri River between Bismarck and Fort Benton. "To All Points in Montana and British Northwest Territory." Pictorial shipping receipts, 1878-1881, for merchandise going from Chicago to post trader JH McKnight at Fort Shaw, Montana Territory. One says Sioux City and Yankton. Another Northern Pacific Railroad and Bismarck D.T. The last St. Paul and Bismarck. 4) Northern Pacific Railroad pictorial shipping receipt, dateline River Landing, 1887. Also for food to JH McKnight at Fort Shaw. Rare group!
