Archive of the Leys Jewelry Company, owned by James D. Leys. The Leys Jewelry Company had many different names over the years including Leys, Christie & Co., Leys Jeweler and Optometrist, and Leys Jewelers and Silversmiths. This jewelry company, located in Butte, Montana, sold jewelry, watches, silverware, etc. This lot includes many different pieces of ephemera related to the business including correspondence, billheads, pictorial letterheads, telegrams, postcards, and checks. Mostly correspondence from customers and jewelry manufacturers. There are also some pieces of personal correspondence written to James Leys scattered throughout this collection. There are hundreds if not thousands of documents in this archive. They act as great primary sources from a business that operated during the Roaring Twenties and into the Great Depression. The bulk of the material is from the 1920s. This lot is comprised of two boxes. The first contains file folders of documents arranged chronologically by year. The second contains bundles of checks from the company. Approx. two cubic feet in total.
