Map of the territory of Montana to accompany the report of the Surveyor General, 1872. no author. This is a copy of the map mounted on linen, that came with three other maps. It is an important early map of Montana, showing proposed rail lines, various Native American Reservations, Yellowstone National Park, and of course all the mining camps. It was made at a time when the map was necessary for land planning purposes, and may be a rare duplicate unavailable today (we didn't check). From the estate of AH Brown Great Falls, MT. We believe this map was owned by his father who moved to Belt, MT in 1894. In 1895 he moved to Neilhart, MT and worked in the silver mines. He later obtained a lease in the Galt Silver Mine and mined silver ore. In the spring of 1900 he took out $38000 in silver-lead ore which was considered a small fortune in the day. About 40 x 60", excellent condition.
