1) Territory of Montana $1,000 bond. NUMBER 1. Issued July 1st, 1876. Signed by G.F. Potts, Governor of the Territory and Auditor and Treasurer. Signatures stamp cancelled. Gorgeous design: ornate border, green background with gilt, two vignettes (placer mining and locomotive). Nine coupons still attached.

2) Butte & Montana Commercial Company. # 237 for 100 shares to James L Wesson. Signed by Thomas Nelson and president HH Stevens. Dateline Boston 1892. Incorporated 1880. Not cancelled. Franklin Bank Note printer. Eagle vignette. Two staples holes. No edge, corner or discoloration issues. Written on top border, "Worthless Security / 3 30.58 / Rec'd for Filing." Great Falls Tribune, Sep. 7, 1890, "Their business will for the present be at Great Falls and on Sheep creek." State: Montana City: Butte Date: 1892

3) Alps Mining Company. We haven't seen this stock before. # 163 for 500 shares to BH (?). Signed by J Hammond and president Caplice). Dateline Butte 1890. Incorporated August 2, 1889. Not cancelled. Blue border. Typing on back shows through above secretary's name. No edge, corner, pin hole or discoloration issues. Caplice and Hammond were original trustees. Mines to be worked were at Harney Creek in Deer Lodge County. This is about 25 miles northwest of Philpsburg. State: Montana City: Harney Creek, Deer Lodge County Date: 1890

4) People Publishing Company. NUMBER 3! Issued to James Self for 1 share. Signed by WL Waples and president James H Lehigh. These three are the original three incorporators! Dateline Butte 1892. Incorporated April 13, 1892. Orange safety paper with black border. Not cancelled. Marks bottom left corner and fold top left corner. Otherwise very nice indeed. 5) Moulton Mining Company. Three stocks: black, green and blue. Issued and punch-cancelled stock certificates for Moulton Mining Company. Inc. in Territory of Montana. Same cert except color. Mining and allegorical vignettes the same. Two are signed by William A Clark. Small issues with each one - light staining and dog ears. Overall in nice condition and make a nice set. Clark worked mining in Colorado before heading for the Montana Gold Rush. He was more successful as a trader than miner at first. Later, he went into banking in Deer Lodge, Montana, repossessing defaulted mining claims. Slowly, he became a powerful mining force and was known as one of the three "Copper Kings" from Butte.
