Storey County Auditor's Office. Dateline Virginia, Feb. 4, 1875. At a meeting of the Commissioners of Storey County, $75 was allowed for the Montgomery Guard for rent of the Armory for January 1875. Signed by the county auditor and deputy. Signed on the back by Captain Donovan. 7 x 8.5" Fold with some separation. The 1873-74 V&T directory lists the Montgomery Guard under the Nevada Militia divisions in Virginia City, and states that Donovan is captain and 43 men are enrolled. They are Company D. They are named as one of the five military companies in VC by Dan De Quille in the History of the Big Bonanza, 1876.
