NGC slabbed the Ted Binion Silver Hoard, & divided the coins into three categories: 1) graded; 28,788 Morgan dollars were graded; 2) coins graded with shades of "uncirculated" or "brilliant uncirculated"; 3) coins authenticated as coming from the Binion treasure, but without any grading. This lot has four ungraded circulated Morgan Dollars from "Binion Collection" (our grading estimates have been added): 1878 (F VF); 1880-O (AU-BU); 1898 (VF-EF); 1921 (VG-F). After he lost his gambling license Ted Binion, moved about 135,000 silver dollars to a bunker in Pahrump, Nevada. He died in 1998, & two days after his death Richard Tabish & four other people were arrested for digging up his buried silver. Tabish & his girl friend Sandy Murphy were convicted of murder, but the convictions were overturned on appeal. In 2001 the Ted Binion estate sold the silver coins through Spectrum Numismatic International for $3.3 million. NGC certified & slabbed the coins. [
