Mormon Bar was one of the earliest placer mining sites for the 49’ers being first mined by members of the Mormon Battalion in 1849. Miners and a large Chinese population arrived chasing out most of the Mormon settlers. Over $2 million in gold was mined at the location 2 miles SSE of Mariposa near Mariposa Creek.
