Location: Great Mogul District, Alpine County, California (printed in left border). Inc. March 17, 1863. No. 645, issued for 18 shares to Samuel Knight on April 14th, 1866 in San Francisco. Signed by president (Corine?) and secretary Capp. Not cancelled. Very attractive certificate with vignette of locomotive pulling cars full of ore past mining camp in mountains. Lith. Dronaillet, S.F. 25 cent IR stamp attached at left. Folds, very good condition. S.A. Hawkins, assessor, reports that in 1866, the company was reported to have 950 feet of tunnel run; having a paying ledge, and "are sinking a shaft to furnish air so that ore may be taken out." Other mines in this district mentioned in the same report include the Mullan Company. Besides the Mogul District, there was also mentioned the Silver Mountain, Mokelumne, Raymond, and Monitor districts in Alpine County. Hawkins notes that a considerable amount of work has been done in the county in the previous two years.
