Lot of 35. The motel concept originated with the Motel Inn of San Luis Obispo, constructed in 1925 by Arthur Heineman. In conceiving of a name for his hotel Heineman abbreviated motor hotel to mo-tel. They were also commonly called Auto Courts. These became more and more popular with the middle class traveler. This is a lot of 20 such auto courts or motels in Reno, Nevada: Cremer's, Siesta, City, El Tavern, Jimmy's, Hill & Sons, Rancho Navalto, Sutro, Reno, Hi Ho, El-Jo, Moana, Rancho Sierra, Farris, Sunset, El Dorado, Clos-In, Longhorn, Piute Ranch, and Star Auto. Also Sonoma Inn and Acree Motel in Winnemucca, Scott Shady Court (with the famed signs between Carson and Reno "The man who drives fast asleep is now buried six feet deep, Scott's Shady Court), Silver Court, Pony Express, Mary's and Hill & Sons. They advertise: removed from train noise, wall-to-wall carpet, air-conditioned, circulating hot water, steam heat, electric kitchenettes, private showers, radios, tile baths, garages, etc. A few are still stand and are in use in Reno - although they show their wear! A unique time period history and a great Reno remembrance! City: Reno, Washoe State: Nevada Date: HWAC# 99360
