Rare. Territorial. Incorporated under the laws of the state of New York. #440. Issued for 1000 shares to Stephen F. Nuckolls on Sept. 28th, 1864. Signed by J. Yeoman (president) and J. Randol (secretary). Added below is an appointment of attorney attachment (continuous page) signed by D.W. Maber and Nuckolls. Stephen Friel Nuckolls (1825-1879) was a co-founder of Nebraska City, served in the Nebraska Territorial Legislature (1859) before moving to Colorado in 1860 to become involved in banking and mining. He eventually served as a Democrat in the 41st Congress representing the Territory of Wyoming (1869-1871). The Mount Alpine property was later reorganized and incorporated in Rhode Island in 1865. According to Hollister, in 1867, the company had a mill and 24 stamps operating and worked on the Griffith, Corisannie, and other lodes [pg. 251].Two twenty-five cent revenue stamps with pen cancels attached to left side.
