A 10 page prospectus was printed in 1864 by the Evening Press Office. In the spring of 1860 George and David Griffith et al staked the entire area as a homestead ranch. This was called the Griffith Mining District and in June of that year the miners called a meeting and drew up laws and regulations to govern the district . By 1864, all of the lodes in the Georgetown area passed into the hands of Eastern capitalists. Five mines were organized in 1864; the Georgetown, Washington, Mount Alpine, Wilson & Cass and Express. The Mount Alpine built a large, handsome mill containing 24 stamps. The company did a great deal of work on the Griffith, Corisannie, and other lodes. Subsequently in 1867 the company was reorganized in Rhode Island becoming "The What Cheer". [The Mines of Colorado by Orvando J.
