One of the most unique railroad passes we've come across. Both sides of the pass are entirely illustrated. The front has a vignette of a winding railroad track with two locomotives headed towards each other. "Only road in the world where two trains can pass on a single track." "Grade 230 Feet to the Mile." Reverse of the pass has a man holding a copy of a publication, Judge, and advertises that "An Annual Pass Goes With Each Subscription To The Judge." Pass issued to WH. Wheeler. Signed by the president. Printed on cardstock. Soiling. This was the 1889 reorganization of the Saratoga, Mount McGregor and Lake George Railroad. This railroad led from North Broadway in Saratoga Springs, New York, and was controlled by the financier Joseph William Drexel. The railroad ran for approximately 12 miles through the towns of Saratoga Springs, Wilton, Moreau and Corinth to the top of Mount McGregor. Its purpose was to convey building materials and later passengers to the Hotel Balmoral on the top of Mt. McGregor. Judge was a weekly satirical magazine published in the United States from 1881 to 1947. It was launched by artists who had seceded from its rival Puck.
