A fabulous collection for this Colorado festival that was held in October in Denver, celebrating the pioneer days of the West. Seventeen items total.



Nine different badges/pins: 1) Souvenir brass badge for the first festival (1895). Center shows a prospector and settler shaking hands. 2.25" x 1.25" 2) Two different badges for the 1897 festival. Both feature a medallion (with serpent imagery) hanging from a ribbon. One is brass and the other is aluminum; both are 1.25" diameter. Ribbon is 1.5" long. 3) Celluloid pin for the 1897 festival. Center color illustration of prospector and settler shaking hands. "3d Annual Festival of Mountain & Plain/ Denver, Col., October 5-6-7, 1897" in blue text around edges 1.5" diameter. Some soiling. 4) Celluloid badge with ribbon for the National Editorial Association for the 1898 festival. Ribbons are pink with silver lettering, 3.5" long. Celluloid badge has color illustration of mountain with livestock and produce. 1.5" diameter. Ribbon is split and has frayed edges. 5) Two different souvenir metallic badges for the 1901 festival. One is a French variant of the Maltese Cross, hanging from a ribbon. The other is a Maltese Cross with circle. Both feature same depiction of prospector and settler shaking hands. 6) Pin for the 1902. "World's Championship/ Stick to Your Saddle." Illustration of cowboy on bucking horse. 1.25" diameter.



Seven different programs and an invitation: 1) Official Programme for the festival of Oct. 16-18, 1895. This was the first festival. 32 pages with advertisements. 8.25" x 5.75" Pages brittle and chipped. 2) Free Official Program for the Second Annual held Oct. 6-8, 1896. Silver dragon on cover. 34 pages with great advertisements, incl. the presence of Ute Indians (on behalf of Midland RR). Ex-historical society copy. 3) Small booklet for the 1897 (which recounts previous two and discusses by-laws). 4.75" x 3" with punched hole and toning. 4) Fabulous decorative invitation for the 1898 grand ball held the last night of the festival, which was the social event of the season. "The Mighty Chief of the Slaves of the Silver Serpent requests your presence..." This secretive organization was born out of the festival and put on an illuminated parade at night in the festival consisting of "various historical, romantic, patriotic, and mythological subjects by manner of artistically constructed floats..." . The Mighty Chief's identity was kept a secret as he was masked. Includes envelope addressed to a Mr & Mrs. Spalding. 6) Decorative Official Program for the 1898 festival by Western Lithographic Co. 43 pages with color illustrations of various exhibits. 6 'x 7.75" in fantastic condition. 7) Program for 1899 published by Josephine Morris. 22 pages with advertisements. 6" x 9.25" with some creases and tears. 8) Official Souvenir Program for the 1899 festival by Edwin Arkins. 48 pages with printed black and white photographs and color illustrations. 5.5" x 7.25" with moderate wear.
