Lot of 7. Jean Faircloth met Douglas MacArthur aboard the SS President Hoover. Although twenty years his younger, they married two years later. She was constantly by his side, even during the war. When these envelopes were being mailed, her husband, General Douglas MacArthur, was the Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers. War was over and General MacArthur was effectively the interim leader of Japan. Since Mrs. MacArthur did not leave her husband's side when they were under attack, I assume she was in Japan with him when these were mailed air mail. In 1909, Rafael Weill & Company moved to a new, terra-cotta faced structure after its original store was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake. This became an iconic San Francisco Department store.
