Brown was a renowned San Francisco lithographer and rare African American lithographer at this time The mine was in all probability named for Judge J. Giles McClinton, one of the area's pioneers. He came to Aurora in 1860 and later became a state senator for Nevada, as well a judge in the Eighth district. He was one of the early developers of claims in the Bodie and Aurora districts. "That Mr. Lent has been connected with nearly every prominent mining enterprise on the Pacific Coast is simply an undeniable fact. Mines are Lent's hobby.
