Large binder filled with 15 original 4.75 x 7.75 inch (approx. avg. size) mounted antique photographs of the Mt. Shasta area by important California photographer Raper James Waters (1855-1937) Photos are mounted on heavy cardboard backing approximately 5.5 x 89.25 inches, slightly larger than the photos. "Waters was an important photographer active around the Mt.Shasta area in 1894 and 1900, as evidenced by the silver prints of the mountains and surrounding areas. He was a partner in Beals & Waters in Sacramento in 1868, had a studio in Virginia City/Gold Hill in 1886, had a gallery in San Francisco on Sutter and also travelled from 1895-1906, operated from Market St in San Francisco from 1915-1916, and is also listed operating a retail location at Oakland Pier, c1900. A rubber stamp imprint on the reverse of the prints contains the name K.S. Denison, Oakland Pier, presumably the retailer of the Waters' prints." (Ref: Biographies of Western Photographers by Carl Mautz,2018.pg. 179) It is unknown if the photograph prints in this album are stamped on reverse, due to mounting. Some pages in the album are labelled with the locations that include: Shasta Springs Resort (incorrectly labelled as Shasta Bottling Works), Mossbrae Waterfall, Summit of Mt. Shasta 14,444 ft., Town of Sisson, Castle Crags, Crystal Lake, and Dunsmuir Cal. Pictured in this album are buildings, mountain climbers, a settlers campsite, Shasta Lake, residents of the area outside town buildings, farmland, a canoe on a small lake and other incredible landscape views. This photographic archive is a treasure. [ California
