Honorary gold medal given to C.H. Connell, by the New Sons of the Golden West. Connell was an assistant clerk for the California Senate. The main plaque hangs from the traditional golden bear pin. The hall location was "Golden Gate Parlor No. 29" indicated on the medal reverse. There is a single diamond with engraved lines shining on the Golden Gate below the engraved "N.S.G.W." title. The golden gates are actual gold nuggets that have been flattened and engraved. Engraving on the reverse indicates the recipient and date. Exquisite workmanship, rare. 0.75 x 2", 0.39 troy ozs. Probably 14kt, as is usual for the NSGW badges.(unmarked with no maker)
