An unbound sewn pamphlet dating from 1835 on the inheritance of a piece of real estate in Harlem, New York City. The pamphlet contains 46 deckle-edged partially unopened pages illustrated with 5 folding maps, dated 1811-1823, including a large folding map at the rear. The caption title on the first page reads "The deduction of the title of Peter Poillon, to parts of two tracts of land, situate at Harlem [sic], adjoining each other, the first of which belonged to Samson Benson, deceased, and which he devised to the children of his two daughters Eve Vredenburgh, the wife of Benjamin Vredenburgh and Jane Bussing, the wife of Aaron Bussing." The enclosed maps are entitled A Plan of Samuel Benson's Ground at Harlem (...), 1823; Map of Lands of Samuel Benson Lying at Harlem (...), 1823; Survey and Map of a Lot of Ground Situated at Harlem (...), 1812; and a Map of a Piece of Ground Situate at Harlem, the Property of Benjamin Vredenburgh, 1811.
The large folding map is complete but the larger portion of the map is torn away and separated along the first vertical fold. There is a tiny tear to the inner edge of another map. The edges The edges of the pages are spotted and the front and bottom edges of the pages are chipped with heavier chipping to the edges of the rear blank leaf.
Great piece of early NYC history. Very rare -- Worldcat locates only 2 copies.
