Phenomenal. Two Napa Valley wine pioneers on one stock. Inc. December 4, 1872. This certificate is No. 1-10, so it counts for the first ten certificates issued. Issued to George Fagg on Dec. 4th, 1872 (day of incorporation) in St. Helena. Signed by Charles Krug as president and secretary Jacob Beringer. Pen cancelled. Black border and print, vignette of grapes (top center) and allegorical woman (left). Alta California Printing House. 5.5 x 9.75" Toning, very nice. The Napa Valley Wine Company was formed by Krug in 1872. It was renamed Napa & Sonoma Wine Company in 1874 after a fire destroyed the first winery. Beringer, after serving as secretary for this company, went on to form the Beringer Vineyards at St. Helena in 1876 with his brother Frederick. Ken Prag Collection
