A dramatic Western scene: a Native American warrior on horseback has his bow drawn on a buffalo. The buffalo already has an arrow in its side, blood dripping. The background has mesa cliffs and more buffalo. The broadside has been matted in such a way that a portion is hidden. A window was cut into the matte bottom left to reveal the artist name and copyright information. The matting may be hiding damage to the broadside on the bottom or right corner. Either way, it looks great the way it is currently presented. Artist is H.W. Hansen. Copyrighted 1904 by the Galloway Litho. Co., S.F. Calif. Measures 18" x 9" in a 24" x 17" frame. H(erman) W(endleborg) Hansen (1854-1924) was born in Dithmarschen, Germany and came to NYC in 1877. He was best known the Western genre scenes he created based on his travels through Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Mexico. [Ref:Who Was Who in American Art, pg 261, 1985] Burt Collection
