The National Parks of the United State celebrated the 1972 centennial of the National Park System with a set of commemorative medals. This lot consists of Volume 1 and Volume 2 of the storage books that were design for this medal series. The medals were produced under a contract with a company called Roche Jaune (French for "stone" and "yellow" -- a reference to the first national park, Yellowstone. Each volume holds 18 medals in labeled holes. The designer of these medals was Frank Hagel, a prominent western artist. The medals were struck by the Medallic Art Company in New York City and continued to be produced well beyond the centennial celebration even after the company moved to Danbury ,Connecticut, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and eventually to Dayton, Nevada. This item came from the unsold material after the liquidation of Northwest Territorial Mint. State: City: Date:
