14" tall bronze, signed E.W. Deming, Fenn bronze, 21/100. E.W. Deming (1860-1942) was a painter and sculptor known for his work with Native Americans. While a teenager, he visited Indian Territory in Oklahoma to sketch. He was educated at the Art Students League and Academie Julian in Paris. When he returned to the U.S., he painted cycloramas. In 1887, he started visiting tribes of the South West. He worked with the Apaches, Pueblos, Blackfoot, Crow, and Sioux. He started focusing on sculpture more after the turn of the century.
