This is a very heavy specimen of native copper from the United Verde Mine in Jerome, Arizona, approx 90 x 60 x 25 mm. It also appears to contain some reddish cuprite, greenish malachite, and pale bluish chrysocolla, and it is contained in a highly altered schistose rock. The United Verde was one of the first large-scale open-pit and underground copper mining operations in Arizona, and it was the seed-bed for numerous developments in modern copper mining, including the use of very large shovels and haul trucks to move huge amounts of ore and overburden.
