This is a specimen of native copper from the Phoenix Mine in Copper County on the Keweenaw Peninsula of Northern Michigan. It weighs approx. 66 grams and measures about 3 x 4 inches. The Phoenix Mine was one of the earliest copper mines in Michigan, and its predecessor was the first active copper mine in Copper County as early as the 1840s.
