Here is a beautiful native copper specimen attributed to the Quincy Copper Mine Complex near Hancock on the Keweenaw Peninsula in Northern Michigan. It weighs approx. 106 grams, and is approx. 3 x 2 x 1-1/2 inches in dimensions. Native copper like this forms within crevices and crack in the rocks, which must be broken apart to release the copper metal. The copper retains the geometry of the space it filled, but the force of breaking up the surrounding rock often distorts the original shape.
