Founded in 1875, the Native Sons of the Golden West is a fraternal organization dedicated to historic preservation of the state's historic structures and places. This Official Programme and Souvenir chronicles the ninth September meeting in San Francisco 1890. Printed by H. S. Crocker & Co., the pamphlet is 62 pages, 10 x 7 inches. Missing the front cover, but the colorful back cover advertises the "Gettysburg" military pageant museum at Market & 10th Streets. Wonderful portrait of San Francisco. In 1890 the organization placed California's first marker honoring the discovery of gold, which gave rise to the state nickname, "The Golden State". U.S. President Richard M. Nixon and Chief Justice Earl Warren served terms as presidents of the NSGW.
