Squash blossom necklace made of dimes (66 beads in all, 2 dimes each), silver dollars (6) and 4 silver squash blossoms. Naja is silver set with a turquoise stone (naja is bent a bit), 35" long. Probably a pawn piece, this necklace is different than most of its kind with the squash blossoms interspersed.

"It was ingenious of some unknown Native artist to create a squash blossom necklace using repurposed materials--United States dimes and half dollars. We don't know who was the first to do so or exactly when the first one was made, but it was probably in the late 1970s. Supposedly it is illegal to deface United States coins but that did not stop the creation of this and other similar necklaces." (courtesy, Adobe Gallery, Santa fe, NM)
