This is a medium sized Navajo rug 34 in. X 54 in. from the 1920's tourist period. There appears to be a balanced array of colors black, gray, and orange. The design appears to be of wind and water but open to interpretation. There is ample weft repairs with some warp thread exposed. There are two commercial fabric squares sewn into two corners and thier purpose is unknown. One marked "B" and the other has even been crudely removed. These could have been added to indicate ownership but this is speculative. The wear is heavy with warp threads showing on two edges and the other edges stabilized by a commerical border. The weave is standard tapestry with both sides identical. The orange and gray colors are complimentary to each other and well balanced. The black border shows signs of fading with two shades visible which adds to the authenticity of the rug where the weaver began a new dyed fabric during construction. The orange color is rare and would add a new demension to any collection. State: City: Date:
