This is an original 1943 counterfeit British bank note for 10 pounds. This was an attempt by the German government to undermine the security of the British banking system during WW2. Named the "Bernhard" after the man that carried out the plan. They used Jewish prisoners from a Berlin concentration camp to make identical counterfeit papers. There are only two minor differences from the real notes that only experts can detect. (More on this later). The tooling along with the prisoner staff were moved to the Austrian mountains once they realized that they were losing the war. The note measures 5 in. X 8.25 in. and shows water staining from being dumped into the Enns River, Austria. The only differences from the original notes are: blurry eyes of Britannia and the loss of clarity on her crown. The Jewish engravers and printers made it out to safety. The truth is more amazing than fiction resulting in the 1997 movie "The Counterfeiters" by the BBC. Please see photos for details.
