This hardcover book is 242 pages of Lead Belly's songs as he would play them. "Negro Folk Songs as Sung by Lead Belly", transcribed, selected, and edited by John and Alan Lomax in 1936. This book is one of the MOST IMPORTANT pieces in FOLK MUSIC history. Born with the name Huddie Ledbetter-called Leadbelly by his friends. Part one tells the Lead Belly story; part two has seven chapters of music. Lyrics, sheet music, and a story line for each song. "King of the twelve-string guitar players of the world," as he called himself, a long-time convict in the penitentiaries of Texas and Louisiana. This story needs telling'. His songs need no introduction: there's C.C. Rider, Careless Love, De Midnight Special, Irene, and Jail-House Blues, forty- eight songs in all.
