Rare. Specimen $1,000 bond. May 1899. Green border and background, black print, and locomotive with cowboys vignette. Printed by ABN. Stamped Specimen on signature line and hole punched. Sheet of 36 coupons attached. 14 x 9.25" Organized in Reno, Nevada in 1880 as the Nevada and Oregon Railroad. The plan was to build north from Reno through Northern California and Oregon to eventually reach The Dalles. Known as the "Narrow, Crooked & Ornery" Railroad due to poor management, a stockholder meeting famously ended in a gunfight between two members. The farthest north they reached was Lakeview, Oregon by 1912.
