Quebedeaux (33) states: First directory and history of the region; first mining camp directory recorded, and the first mountain directory to be published in California." Too late for listing in Kurutz (1853 cutoff). Here Hearst, nor A.B. Paul are not listed in Grass Valley or Nevada City, but Hearst's cousins the Clarks are. The most prominent assayer ad is Schotte "assayed gold bars warranted to stand the test of the Mint". Ad for Wells Fargo at Rough & Ready. Several ads for gold dust buyers that are outside the usual known spectrum of companies. Rare. perhaps ten or less known.
