The Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad was chartered in March 1874. The 22½-mile Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad was constructed in a record fifteen months by New York civil engineer John Flint Kidder [1830-1901]. When John Kidder died in 1901, his widow took over daily operation of the railroad, becoming the first female railroad president in the world.
Unissued and Uncanceled $1000 8% First Mortgage Gold Bearer Bond, dated Jan 1. 1876. Not numbered or signed. BLACK, Three Vignettes: 1. Bottom miner working claim 2. Lower left monitor miners washing hillside, train crossing bridge. 3. Top 4-4- 0 passenger train passing countryside center of arched and wavy title. 1000 printed in upper left and right corners. "1000" in green underprint. All coupons attached. Lith Crocker & Co printer. Kept in plastic hardbound binder no holes, creases or stains. Not listed in Cox or other references.
