# 537 for 5 shares issued to Samuel Knight on April 15, 1864 in Virginia [City]. Endorsed on reverse by Hopkins. Signed by J. M. Hopkins secretary and (?) president. Incorporated August of 1863. Nice Loomis vignette of miner pushing an ore cart out of a mine. Loomis was a favorite San Francisco lithographer at this time with Towne & Bacon printers. Small 5c and 20c revenue stamps. Printed, "Gold Hill Mining District." Pin holes, one corner fold and one red 'x'. Within 18 months the company had not paid taxes. Knight seems to by the S. F. Wells Fargo supervisor who lost his life in the tremendous nitroglycerin explosion of 1866. G. W. Hopkins was a 20 year Virginia City citizen, grand master of a V. C. lodge, V. C. mayor, and secretary to many mining companies including the Yellow Jacket and Crown Point (notes included).
