All first edition hardcovers with original dust jackets. a) Volume I. 1962. 443pp. A record of over forty-three railroads of Northern Nevada, many of them never before chronicled. A great deal of information is provided about the economic history of Nevada and the eastern slope of the Sierra, as it is as much a history of the region as it is a railroad book. Much on Chinese and Irish track gangs who built the railroads, as well as European capitalists who provided the money for greater expansion. Many industries are discussed including mining and gold mining, lumber and timber, fiberboard mills, etc. b) Vol. II, 1962. The author expands the history of the economic development and railroad expansion into Southern Nevada and Eastern California, from Death Valley and the Mojave Desert to the hard rock tunnels of Goldfield and the isolated communities of Rhyolite and Pioche. Much on silver mines. c) Vol. III. 392 pp., preface, acknowledgments, chronological list of selected events, illustrated from photographs, maps and charts. Covers short lines and lumber trains. 4) Virginia & Truckee, The Bonanza Road by Ferrell. 1999 hardcover 1st edition. 300pp. with many photos. 5) Bonanza Railroads by Kneiss. Revised edition 1963. Hardcover 187 pp. 14 pp. photographs, with numerous textual drawings. History of the short-lived rail lines that were constructed in Nevada and Northern California during the gold and silver booms, including the Sacramento Valley Railroad, San Francisco and San Jose Railroad, the Virginia and Truckee Railroad, the Eureka and Palisade lines, and the Nevada Central Railroad.
