Triangular piece of copper, 1/4 inch think, with punched letters" Triangle 5 Soloon (sic) 5// 5 Rawhide, Nev.// One 5 Bet 5// 5 Five Dollars 2 3/4 x 2 3/4 x 3 3/4" 136.2 grams. Dark brown oxidation. Origin unknown. Date unknown. Highly unlikely to be a legitimate piece from the 1907-8 height of the Rawhide mining camp, as ingots of this value were nearly always in precious metal, or the metal of the mining camp, and that was gold for Rawhide. Is it a fantasy piece made at the time sold for fun at the bar to touring miners or prospectors? Was it dug in a Rawhide dump before the open pit mine consumed the entire town of Rawhide? Was it made by a clever person as a fantasy in the 1960s? Regardless, it is a fun display piece invoking lots of discussion.
