Lot of five. All revolve around William Easton, sheriff in Austin. 1) Two 1895 letters from the Sheriff's Office, Elko County, Nevada. First one informs Easton that a deputy in Tuscarora has been notified by stage and that "if [the suspect] goes that way he will surely be caught"! Second Elko letter on same letterhead informs Easton that "I would have called on you for assistance if I need you." 2) Two letters signed by Easton on his letterhead. Dateline Austin 1895 and 1896. One letter has Easton writing to Wadsworth, Nev. to find out "the names of men employed on the section of Battle Mountain." Second letter is to Marshall, Ill. and seems to be regarding an order they want from a Mr. Holdrum in San Francisco. 3) Final letter is from the Assessor of Humboldt County, Nevada. Addressed to Easton in 1895, the county assessor is congratulating Easton on his reelection (...and asking what he will assess his cattle and sheep at this year.) All five letters show moderate signs of wear: toning, folds, etc. Nice group!
