"This is to certify that Edwin G. Waite arrived at San Francisco, California July 16, 1849 in the Brigantine Soledad from Panama via the Isthmus from New York after a journey of 105 days from port to port., and that he is an honored member of this Society." Signed Samuel Snow, president and dated Sept 9, 1891 at Boston. 22 x 28 inches. Vignettes of San Francisco 1849, Finding the First Gold, Crossing the Isthmus, Society's Headquarters (Revere House), and Rounding Cape Horn. The Society was founded in Boston June 17, 1889. Edwin G. Waite was a politician, newspaper man, author and gold miner. He was a member of California's 16th State Assembly district, Alameda, California from 1855 until 1856. in 1891, he became Secretary of State of California and died in office in 1894.
