A collection of 22 letters sent between members of the Guild family of New England, primarily between Amelia C. Guild and her son Edward Payton Guild. The letters range in date from 1870 to 1888, and span Edward's years attending school in Brattleboro, Vermont. The letters originate from Massachusetts towns such as Heath, Easthampton, and Buckland. The letters cover such topics as local preachers, schooling, and death in the community, providing a personal and intimate portrait of everyday life in the late 1800s. This collection archives the letters of both Amelia and Edward, as well as Amelia's sister, grandfather, and unspecified acquaintance. The original envelopes for all letters are present and paired with their corresponding letter, and the majority are in very good condition due to being cut rather than torn open. Letters are organized chronologically by month in a binder.
