Very rare autograph piece! $1,000 bond No. 2015 issued June 30th, 1886. Signed by the president, vice-president and secretary on the front. Signed by J.P. Morgan and Harris C. Fahnestock as trustees on the reverse. Vignette of ships in harbor on front. Large vignette of ships and locomotive on reverse. Brown border. Printed by ABN. Thirty-nine coupons present. Very fine. John Pierpoint Morgan (1837-1913) was an American financier and banker. Morgan, Rockefeller and Carnegie once controlled one third of the GNP of the US. Morgan clashed with other financial titans such as Jay Gould and Edward Harriman as he sought to buy and reorganize railroads in the late 19th century. His reorganization of U.S. Steel in 1901 made it America's first billion dollar corporation. He is credited with helping stave off an economic collapse in 1907 after President Roosevelt asked him to help along with other bankers to stabilize the economy. JP Morgan & Co. still stands today on Wall Street. Also comes with 8 x 10" black and white photograph of Morgan, as well as a booklet of biographical information on Morgan.
