This well worn copper is from the early days of our Republic. A petition to coin these pieces was granted November 22, 1786 in the state of New Jersey. The obverse shows a horse's head with plow and the legend NOVA CAESAREA (New Jersey). The reverse has a United States shield and the first use of the term E PLURIBUS UNUM.
